Fulfilling the Promise of Mabo is a national symposium that brings together Traditional Owners, native title organisations, government, industry, legal practitioners and policymakers to examine the landmark Australian Law Reform Commission (ALRC) Report 144, Fulfilling the Promise of Mabo: Reforming the Future Acts Regime.
Following the Report’s release and its 86 recommendations for reforming the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth), the symposium will explore the practical implications of the proposed changes, identify pathways for implementation, and foster informed discussion on creating a fairer, more efficient and non-discriminatory future acts regime that strengthens agreement-making, supports First Nations economic development, and advances the promise of the Mabo decision.
This is your opportunity to participate in an informed discussion about the Report’s recommendations, strengthen collaboration across the sector, and build consensus on implementing the ALRC’s recommendations for reform of the future acts regime.
Insights gathered through this discussion will be incorporated into a broader research paper by the Mabo Centre intended to inform policy development and future action in relation to reform of the future acts regime.
