The Mabo Centre is a transformational joint initiative of the National Native Title Council and the University of Melbourne.

The Mabo Centre will support Traditional Owners with research to support governance, and First Nations youth to become community leaders and drive economic change in their communities.

Research

The Mabo Centre’s research program is responsive to Traditional Owner needs.

Our research supports Traditional Owners to build capability in governance, agreement-making, business, and commercial development, for economic benefit.

We recognise and elevate First Nations knowledge systems, and embed Indigenous ways of thinking, being, and doing into our research program.

Our research also informs national policy development in support of a fairer, more efficient native title system, empowering Traditional Owners to achieve the best possible outcomes from the resources they control and influence.

Training

Supporting Indigenous diplomacy and leadership is critical to any effective realisation of Traditional Owners’ ambitions.

The Mabo Centre will work with Traditional Owners and their organisations to strengthen their capacities in executive leadership, economic empowerment and negotiations.

Exchange

Traditional Owners and their representative institutions hold enormous skills, knowledge and experience. Providing a place for sharing of that knowledge is essential for both support and benchmarking best practice.

The Mabo Centre will convene networks and connections for knowledge exchange and sharing effective agreement making.

Acceleration

Much more than agreement making, long term economic health of communities is built on a cohesion of skills, education and vision.

The Mabo Centre will support the progress of initiatives that promote economic empowerment and Indigenous entrepreneurship.
