Enabling economic empowerment for Indigenous communities

Insights from the 2025 World Indigenous Business Forum

Attending the 2025 World Indigenous Business Forum (WIBF) has provided the Mabo Centre with opportunities to connect with global and domestic Indigenous businesses, leaders, and entrepreneurs – both on stage and off.

Participating in a panel discussion on Global Indigenous Partnerships for Economic Development, Centre Co-Chair Jamie Lowe spoke about the need to turn conversations around economic empowerment and participation into real action, highlighting the importance of both government and private investment to grow the capability of First Nations people.

“Access to capital continues to be an issue, but we need to build capacity and capability within First Nations communities to be investment ready when those opportunities come along. We need to turn the narrative into action, and start to make change for First Nations people.”

– Jamie Lowe, Mabo Centre Co-Chair

The need for greater investment into capacity building for Indigenous leaders and businesses to enable economic empowerment was echoed in other discussions throughout the three-day Forum.

Jamie was joined onstage for the well-attended session by Tom Dawkins, co-founder Lend for Good, and Luis Felipe Duchiela, founder Indigenous Prosperity for Global Impact.

Across two days, Mabo Centre staff spoke with attendees about the Centre’s work, building valuable connections and sharing insights with local and international organisations and business leaders.

With more than 1,000 attendees and delegates from across the globe attending the Forum, the Centre was pleased to be highlighted as a Premier Sponsor.

We thank everyone who stopped to yarn with us during WIBF and allowed us to share the Centre’s work. It was a privilege to listen to your stories and benefit from the collective wisdom of the global Indigenous community.
