Submission to the Attorney General’s Department’s evaluation of the 2021 amendments to the Native Title Act 1993

This submission provides a detailed evaluation of the 2021 amendments to the Native Title Act 1993, assessing how each schedule has operated in practice and identifying both positive impacts and areas where the reforms have fallen short due to limited resourcing or unresolved procedural issues.

It highlights opportunities to strengthen native title processes, improve agreement-making efficiency, and better support Traditional Owners’ self-determination, while offering clear recommendations for further legislative refinement and implementation improvements.

This is a joint submission by the Mabo Centre and the National Native Title Council.
